The Girl on the Train (La fille du RER)

105 min |
| Cast: Emilie Dequenne, Catherine Deneuve |

In the past decade, banlieues in France have become identified with the bleak violent landscapes of La Haine and 2005 riots. Téchiné's timely, complex portrait links imagined spaces of bias and fear to the provincial domesticity of middle-class suburbs through a young girl who fabricates accusations of assault and anti-Semitism amidst swirling issues of ethnic identity, alienation, love and conflicting demands. Based on a real story brought to powerful and nuanced life by Emilie Dequenne (Rosetta) and Catherine Deneuve.
